Flower Power: Mother Nature’s Bounty in Beauty Products

Welcome to May! A month when Northern Hemisphere gardeners eagerly plant their gardens – a month when earth truly laughs in flowers. From nettle, to rosemary – here are the botanical beauty and wellness products inspiring us in May.

The Organic Skin Co. Calendula and Turmeric Cream

When it comes to natural and organic beauty, The Organic Skin Co. doesn’t mind taking the time to explain it all. They are as transparent as a skincare brand can get, and this results in truly beautiful and wholesome products. I love their impressive and environmentally-friendly line of makeup products, but beauty starts with skincare – and they provide it just as well. Whether you suffer from dry skin or have problems with acne, the moisturizing, yet antiseptic properties of the Task Force Nine Cream solve it all. It even works on my eczema. Calendula is hydrating, has antibacterial, antiseptic and antioxidant properties. Your skin will just drink it up.

Stinging nettle is a wild herb that’s near and dear to my heart. My grandmother picked it with her bare hands and swore by its power to help with arthritis pain. My mother taught us how to gently gather nettle with gloves and make it into a hair rinse. I might be biased, but I like to believe that Central and Easter Europe has some of the best nettle. Nettle is known to be rich in silica and sulphur. Using it as a hair potion helps re-store color and shine. Nettle even aids hair growth.

KLORANE Dry Shampoo with Nettle

While dry shampoo on its own might be dull, Klorane’s Dry Shampoo with Nettle is quite the exciting item this month. Nettle for hair brings back memories of my childhood, and my mother rinsing my hair with nettle extract. You can find the simple recipe here. Klorane’s dry shampoos are always a favorite, but this one truly tugs at the heart strings. In this case, nettle helps with oil absorption, and we can all use a bit of that these days.

BLISSOMA Peace Evening Calming Elixir

Appropriately named Peace, Blissoma’s Evening Calming Elixir is a complex serum, filled with all the goodness your skin needs for nightly sleep. It’s been a while since a serum impress me this much. It made good friends with the rest of my nighttime routine and I’ve never woken up looking more refreshed. While this product uses a botanical recipe (full of minerals, antioxidants, and soothing properties) of various ingredients, dandelion root really stands out. Yet another nostalgic find. Dandelion is a flower my mother planted in order to make a muscle rub. It has anti-inflammatory properties, and of course, anti-aging benefits.

Tata Harper Hyaluronic Acid Face Mist

The name Tata Harper transforms us to a farm, filled with fresh skincare ingredients. This luxury brand has truly made their mark in clean beauty. Tata Harper is proof that nature has all we need . Tata Harper’s Hydrating Floral Essence is more than a face mist. It’s a toner, a hydrating booster, and a tool to set your makeup. It’s lightweight hydration. Rose is known to hydrate dry skin, and in combination with lavender and hyaluronic acid, this spray is a divine way to keep wrinkles at bay.

Pure Mana Hawaii Nourishing Body Oil

Pure Mana Hawaii makes rare gold. Their skincare line is one of the best I’ve tried in years. I might be biased because I’ve developed fondness for the brand Founders and their work. I even look forward to visiting their farm in the future. Considering how much love and care goes into farming, developing the right formula and creating just the right packaging, I’d say this brand nailed it. This is skincare that’s truly from “soil to your skin”. The scent in their Radiant Glow Body Oil alone is paradise – containing an intoxicating blend of Hawaiian Tuberose, Hawaiian Vanilla, Nepalese Cinnamon and Sri Lankan Clove. Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil is at the center of it all. You will never try a more useful (use it on the face, body, as a makeup primer and as scent therapy) and genuinely nourishing product than this.

Pure Principals Face Serum

Pure Principal’s Founder, Cheryl McSherry, is a NAMA certified Ayurvedic Practitioner devoted to skincare that is derived from mother nature. This brand’s philosophy resonates with many on this list: “what you put on your skin should be just as pure as what you put in your body, because everything we put on our skin gets absorbed directly into the bloodstream”. Rosemary extract is the ingredient that sticks out in this Clarifying Facial Serum. It is an ingredient that soothes and heals the skin. In addition, rosemary disinfectant and contains antibiotic properties, making this serum ideal for acne prone skin.
