New York City Has a New Museum: The World’s Only Makeup Museum Has Opened It’s Doors With a “Pink Jungle – 1950s Makeup In America” Exhibit

New York City proves that it remains to be America’s cultural hub with the opening of the world’s first Makeup Museum. Beauty, and more specifically makeup, have been a part of society for thousands of years, so we do wonder – why has no one thought up this idea before? While the initial opening of the museum was delayed due to the coronavirus, the 3,500-square foot space has officially opened its doors September 1st at 94 Gansevoort Street – proving that the city is recovering and very much alive. Before you go, make sure to reserve your ticket and schedule a visit on their website. Don’t forget to explore the rest of the meatpacking district afterwards. Let’s talk makeup. Makeup is so much more than tangible objects and what the eye sees. Makeup is heritage, resilience, nostalgia, strength, folklore, art, and so much more. Makeup artifacts can tells us more about what was considered beautiful, past inventions, and societal thinking. It was about time someone paid homage to makeup and its purpose. The museum opened …

Makeup Museum To Open In New York City

New York’s 2020 newest cultural institution will be all about the significance of makeup. The first ever Makeup Museum is ready to open its doors to beauty lovers everywhere, and its debut exhibit is called “Pink Jungle: 1950s Makeup in America“. We like to believe this was the height of glamour. The museum will be located in the meatpacking district at 94 Gansevoort St. Support for the museum shows how the beauty community is coming together and they want everyone to be a part of it. The first exhibit is set to open in May 2020, but tickets go on sale in March 2020. To find out more, visit the museums’s website. “The Makeup Museum is a critical institution for the cultural landscape in New York, and globally, because makeup has a 10,000-year history. Spanning from the ancient Egyptians with the coal eyeliner that they used to Kabuki and Geisha makeup in Japan, all the way to drag makeup and the influence that it has today on pop culture. There is so much that the Makeup …

Blushington launched in 2011 and continues to invent ways to make our modern busy lives even better. While experiencing the company’s latest launch, TSA-approved shops in hotel lobbies, we became curious about the inner workings of Blushington and their work culture. The company was founded by a woman, is run by a female CEO, effectively aids employees in building their careers and makes it a point to carry female-owned brands. It is clear that Blushington is an empowered sisterhood that enjoys propelling women’s careers. 12 Best Finds From The Indie Beauty Expo

“The biggest highlight for me when it comes to IBE and BeautyX is always getting a chance to meet these beauty entrepreneurs face to face. They are the driving force behind this industry and every decision we make at IBMG aims to support them. It is so important to connect with brand founders in person- you get so much more out of that than you do by looking at a website or a brand deck. It was also such a treat to listen to Carol Hamilton’s conversation with our Claire McCormack during BeautyX– Carol is a legend and we were thrilled to welcome her back to BeautyX.” – Jillian Wright, Co-Founder of IBE ANDA by Kerstin Florian Everything Kerstin Florian makes is a home run. How to Shop and Understand The Natural Beauty Market

Decoding the natural beauty space has become vital to our health. There is a reason natural beauty is having a moment. As consumers, younger generations with income to spare can be seen checking for ingredients and cruelty-free marks. While the emphasis on healthier beauty has been in the spotlight for some time now, millennials can be credited with moving the agenda of toxic-free products and sustainability into the future. Unfortunately, when it comes to regulating what words and ingredients brands use, the personal care industry has a long way to go. United States continues to be behind Europe, with an ingredients blacklist that is in no way comparable to the number of ingredients the European Union warns us about. The EU has banned over 1,300 chemicals in personal care products, while United States has only banned 11. Image this! The burden of monitoring ingredients still falls on brands and consumers. This means that brands are left to their own devices. We can thank the people behind good brands, such as, Beautycounter. They have been pushing …

11 Best Brands To Help You Make The Switch to Natural Makeup

While the idea of healthier beauty is a romantic one, switching to toxic-free makeup is not always an easy transition. Makeup lovers everywhere are used to their trusty brands and routines. Education about brand ingredients and practices is key. Whenever someone asks me what brand they should try, I tell them to start the process by visiting a shop in person. You should test out a palette of colors that might suit you. I do have personal favorites but I aim to keep an open mind when giving advice to others. Begin with one brand; purchasing a new lip or nail color. Today the market is flowing with natural and organic brands that provide striking colors and beautiful packaging. Yes! You can Create a Makeup Look Using Clean Beauty Brands

The toxic-free beauty market is not what it was 20 years ago. Today’s beauty industry standards are getting a clean sweep across makeup and skincare. When it comes to regulations and greenwashing we have a long way to go but believe me when I tell you that choosing products with unnecessary chemicals no longer makes sense for you. Always read labels because makeup absorbs into your skin, your largest organ. A good rule to have is if you watch what you put in your body, you will want to watch what you put on it as well. I do confess that I consider myself a 90% clean, 10% not so much kind of beauty worshiper. If you spilled the contents of my makeup bag you might find that it is not all clean.  In college I worked and saved up money to feed my Chanel and Dior obsession. To this day, I keep these brands on hand. Additionally, I am believer in science-backed skincare and brands with a good track record of using safe ingredients. …

Indie Beauty Expo is reflective of the times we live in. Green beauty has evolved and elevated the standards of what consumers want from brands big and small. Natural beauty is no longer just for spa seekers, toxic-free beauties and those in the know. This has been my second year attending the Indie Beauty Expo. One can certainly feel the intoxicating energy and excitement for clean living. When I started writing about wellness and green beauty in 2006, the options were limited and not as attractive. We have come a long way. In the last few years, the industry has sped up the process and we woke up to indie beauty being trendy. My personal beauty journey has evolved as well, arming me with the tools need for seeking out the best chemical-free products out there. Over the years, I have gone from blogger, to Online Editor for the Organic Spa Magazine, to helping my mentor, Mary Bemis, launch Insider’s Guide to Spas. I have judged the best beauty and wellness brands at the NY …
